Silverado Senior Living is unique among assisted living companies in the extent of involvement and resident oversight that licensed nurses have for each of our residents.

Each of our Assisted Living communities have registered nurses (RN’s) as our Directors of Health Services. These RN’s are full-time on-site leadership positions to assure quality of care for every resident. In addition to the RN position, there are licensed nurses (LVN’s or LPN’s) full-time on every shift at every Silverado community.

Every resident receives a nursing assessment and care plan upon time of move-in to our community. If a resident has a history of chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, Parkinsons disease, heart failure, arthritis or other chronic conditions, a plan is put in place, after consultation with the primary physician, to manage these medical conditions. In addition, each resident is assessed for the risk of falling and a proactive plan is established to minimize fall and injury risks to residents. All medications are reviewed monthly by our Directors of Health Services and medications are reduced as appropriate to reduce the potential threat of adverse effects or interactions to medications.

If a resident experiences an acute illness, such as a urinary or respiratory tract infection, nurses are on-site 24 hours a day to assess the resident and communicate timely with their physician. It is infrequent that a resident has to be transferred out to a hospital for medical evaluation since our nurses are usually able to evaluate symptoms promptly and obtain medical treatment with the first sign of illness.

Some of the areas of the residents’ health that are routinely monitored include: weight, vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature), pain symptoms and functional and activity level. Families and physicians are communicated with promptly if there are any significant changes in these areas of residents’ health.

Silverado believes that an active program of maintaining physical conditioning of all residents leads to better quality of life. Our nursing, caregiving and activity staff are all trained to maintain or increase the residents’ functional level. Residents are encouraged and assisted to walk and participate in physical activities such as dancing, golfing, swimming. Maintenance of the residents’ physical abilities helps preserve their sense of independence, as well as their muscle and bone strength and sense of balance. This helps contribute to Silverado’s low injury and fall rate of our residents.

Silverado’s nursing staff is there to evaluate, treat and comfort all of our residents. Our nurses excel in management of dementia and other chronic diseases of the elderly. In addition, our nursing and social work staff is available to support the families through the difficult passage of their loved one’s dementia. Families and physicians can have peace of mind that Silverado has licensed nurses on-site 24 hours a day to care for their loved ones.
