medications. Silverado is proud of our philosophy of using
resident redirection and validation to assist in behavior
modification. Silverado has a low rate of psychotropic
medication use and frequently evaluates residents to reduce
unnecessary medication use.

Silverado offers a diverse range of activities which stimulate
social, cognitive and physical abilities, utilizing the latest
techniques for the care of residents with Alzheimer’s Disease
and other dementias. Activities include music, intergenerational
programs, gardening, resident pets, hobby and workshops.
Country kitchens replace traditional nursing stations, with
24-hour healthy snacks available. At Silverado, our goal is to
make each day a satisfying, life-filled experience.
A Special Focus on the Family
At Silverado, we feel that no one should face this disease
alone. That’s why we take special care to offer support to the
families of our residents. Professionally led family/caregiver
support groups, educational programs, day and respite care are
available to assist the family in transition.

We also provide outdoor family barbecues and picnics on our

It is important for the individual with dementia to remain in a
stable, familiar environment. Professional, medical expertise,
coupled with behavioral support and hospice services, are
available as needed. Our goal is to provide a homelike
environment allowing residents to enjoy the rest of their lives
here. Silverado is committed to provide our residents 24-hour
licensed nursing services with expertise in behavioral
interventions and chronic disease management.
We also accommodate individual dietary or medication needs.
People with walkers or wheelchairs are more than welcome.

California at San Diego’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research
